About half of Americans who should be screened for colon cancer aren’t tested for the disease, which kills about 50,000 each year and is largely survivable if detected early. An expert panel convened by the National Institutes of Health drew attention yesterday to the shortcomings in the nation’s effort to lower colorectal-cancer deaths and recommended improvements.
